With 2026 here, Mindy Pechenuk, candidate for Oakland Mayor in the November 2026 election, shares an early New Year's message of hope and determination, urging residents to never give up on the city they love.

"Happy New Year to all Oaklanders – and never give up on Oakland," said Pechenuk. "We are entering a pivotal year, and together we can reclaim our city's greatness."

"Enough is enough. Mayor Barbara Lee and her administration continue to raise taxes and now impose new parking meter fees on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m, beginning January 4, 2026.

These burdensome policies hit working families hardest, drive customers away from small businesses, and produce no meaningful jobs or economic growth.""Oakland is resilient, our people are stronger than any challenge, and our future remains full of promise.

In 2026, I am running with a bold vision: decisive action to create real jobs, real wealth, and real opportunity for families across every neighborhood.

Central to Pechenuk's plan is revitalizing empty warehouses into centers of innovation — machine tool facilities, 3D printing hubs, and advanced manufacturing operations — powered by federal Opportunity Zones and strategic partnerships to deliver high-skill careers and higher wages for Oakland residents."This is our moment," Pechenuk declared.
